Monstor In the sewer
A monster lives in the sewer underground and watches people out the drainage grate. ONe day a small boy gets lost down there and meets this monster, after a period of uncertinty the pair create a bond, only to be broken by the police when they come to find him. Will the sewage monster make the right choice?
Teenage girls sent on mankind's first attempt to colonize another planet
After discovering a 'nearby' habitable planet, mankind makes its first attempt to colonize another planet. Near lightspeed travel means that the first settlers can get there in under 20 years. But, resource limitations means that only a small group of settlers can be sent, and there is no chance of a return trip.
In order to colonize the planet, they need to maximize the number of women on the trip. In addition, the women need to still be fertile after the 20 years of travel plus the time it takes to establish a stable base of operations on the new planet.
After much debate, it is decided to send a team consisting entirely of highly gifted, young teenage girls. During the 20 year journey they will study and train for the required skills they will need for survival. If they succeed in creating a livable space on the new planet, they will then breed though artificial insemination, and become the mother's of a new earth.

In 50 years, life expectancy increases to 300 years
Imagine breakthroughs in the next 30 to 50 years result in the average life expectancy increasing to 300 years. And that people are able to retain their youth and vigor for a majority of their increased life span.
What effects does this have an society and people's behavior ?
For example, would people be content to work in low wage, unfulfilling jobs for most of their lives, or would they ultimately find something more satisfying to pursue.
Saving even a modest amount of money over 250 years would result in a huge sum of money. For example, saving $10/month with a 5% return on your investment over 250 years would result in a nest egg worth $630,112,320.37. But, would people actually save? Or would they keep living paycheck to paycheck. What would be the effects of the huge economic disparity?

Child Born, odd deformity.
A child is born into a family of 4 other kids. But the girl has red eyes, green skin, 7 fingers/toes on each hand/foot or anything else you can think of. As she grows older her personality shows as odd and slightly insane. As she rambles on about garbage monstors and canibal bushes in the yard her parents debate sending her to school. Getting older still she discovers odd abilities and begins to play with them. Getting into lots of trouble as she explores her newfound powers.

Spaceship captain uses experience fly-fishing to recognize a trap
Fly fishing is the art of fooling fish. A "fly" is a small hook with any number of materials attached so that it looks like an insect to the fish. Trout are notoriously suspicious. Often they will rise to a fly and detect something wrong when they get close.
If humans compare the fly with the insect, the two often look quite different; the fly is designed to look like the impression of that insect on the surface of the water when viewed from below. It must only appear like an insect to the fish.
This story is about first contact between humans and another species in the future. An alien ship is detected and the admiral of the space fleet is summoned to the scene. Unfortunately, he is on vacation, out of communication, fly fishing in the wilderness. The action begins when an officer arrives to notify the admiral that he is needed.
